Stan Van Gundy atop Bucks wish list

Not that he was truly in, but Milwaukee is moving on from Jim Boylan. As [the Bucks] start the process of hiring a new head coach, Stan Van Gundy has emerged as the franchise's top target, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Houston Rockets assistant coach Kelvin Sampson also is near the top of the franchise's list, sources said. ... Among other possible candidates could be Los Angeles Lakers assistant Steve Clifford and Golden State Warriors assistant Mike Malone, sources said. Boylan was in a difficult situation with a roster that included conflicting agendas for potential free agents Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis. Still, there's developing talent within the organization that makes the job intriguing. (Yahoo! Sports) Comment

The Mets' surprise savior

Few could have predicted that John Buck, coming off a dispiriting 2012 season, would return to Miami as a visitor with such success, as he did Wednesday night. Right now, all his offensive dreams are coming true for Buck, whose 27 RBI trail only Triple Crown defender Miguel Cabrera, red-hot Orioles slugger Chris Davis and no one in the National League. ... [Buck] is loving the New York experience. "Maybe when I was young it would have been different. Now that I'm older, I welcome the pressure of it," Buck said. "Everyone in the city is knowledgeable. It's fun pressure. I don't wear it as hard. It feels like positive pressure." However it feels to him, he has been a savior for the Mets. (CBS Sports) Comment

Christian Ponder's scary ER visit

Though Christian Ponder wound up needing only an MRI, his impromptu trip to the emergency wasn't a whole lot of fun. "They didn't do anything. I got an [MRI] and they said the contusion came back. I don't know why or how, but it did. It was just weird. All of a sudden, the whole thing got rock hard and swelled up. I was scared to death that it was a blood clot, so I went to the ER." ... "I called Sugs [head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman] first. Thanks goodness because the doctor at the ER, obviously, she was a great help but she wanted to go into surgery. She thought it was compartmental syndrome. It was a little scary. Luckily, Sugs called at the right moment and talked to the doctor and said don't do anything crazy." (Star Tribune) Comment
