In the eyes of some, including Mark McGwire, Yasiel Puig could benefit from a quick lesson on respect. Consider the following: During batting practice before Monday's game at Chase Field, sources say Puig was approached by Luis Gonzalez. The former Diamondbacks star introduced himself, and began relating how his family also had roots in Cuba, just like Puig. Except Puig wouldn't even look up or acknowledge his visitor. And for the record, Gonzalez was speaking Spanish, so nothing was lost in translation. ... [McGwire] witnessed the awkward meeting, and allegedly jumped Puig pretty good. McGwire pointed out the man he was ignoring merely won a World Series with a hit off Mariano Rivera, and that Gonzalez' number happened to be hanging inside Chase Field. (USA TODAY Sports) Comment
Shayanna Jenkins may well hold more damaging details for her fiance. [Jenkins] broke into tears when she was told that Odin L. Lloyd had been murdered, but her boyfriend Aaron Hernandez slammed the door in the face of police. ... The records, which were released at the request of several news organizations including The Boston Globe, do not contain any indication of what Bristol District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter's office believe motivated a millionaire professional athlete to murder Lloyd, who was dating Jenkins's sister. ... In the papers, police said their conversation with Jenkins came to an abrupt end when Hernandez called on her cellphone and told her his "sports agent said she should not speak with police." For now, North Carolina basketball coach Roy Williams isn't talking -- not much, anyway. "Our procedure, our stance has been we're not making any statement until the facts are in and until everything is done," Williams told [a WTVD-TV] reporter. Hairston, 20, was cited for speeding while driving a rented 2012 Chevrolet Camaro on May 13, and he was arrested during a traffic stop in Durham on June 5, when he and two passengers in a rented 2013 GMC Yukon were charged with marijuana possession. Hairston was also charged with driving without a license. According to USA Today and the News & Observer of Raleigh, 39-year-old convicted felon Haydn "Fats" Thomas rented the Yukon from a local Hertz location and Catinia Farrington, who shares the same Durham address as Thomas, was renting the Camaro from Hertz. Yasiel Puig runs into Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero in the fifth inning. Puig was out, but the Dodgers treated Montero and their old friend Ian Kennedy (right) rudely during their 6-1 win at Chase Field in Phoenix. In an echo of the teams' beanball-inspired melee in June, Kennedy hit LA's Hanley Ramirez in the shoulder in the first inning and Montero was plunked in the leg by Dodger reliever Ronald Belisario during the ninth, prompting a warning from plate umpire Marvin Hudson.
