Acevedo injured falling into dugoutPosted: Thursday August 7, 2003 3:37AM; Updated: Monday August 18, 2003 3:09PM LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Cincinnati Reds pitcher Jose Acevedo will land on the disabled list after spraining his left ankle when he fell down the dugout steps at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday night. The mishap occurred after Acevedo struck out Los Angeles' Jeromy Burnitz to end the third inning. Acevedo missed the last step and slipped. X-rays were inconclusive and Acevedo was sent back to Cincinnati for an MRI exam Thursday. After the Reds lost 2-1, interim Cincinnati manager Dave Miley said Acevedo would be placed on the disabled list. "It's a tough break for him and us," Miley said. Acevedo was replaced by John Riedling with a 1-0 deficit, the result of Burnitz's second-inning home run. Acevedo, making his fourth start of the season, entered the game 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA. He started the season at Triple-A Louisville and was promoted on July 18. |
