DURHAM, N.C. (Ticker) -- Concerned with a lack of playing time, Duke reserve sophomore center Michael Thompson on Monday announced his decision to transfer to another school following the fall semester.
A former McDonald's All-American, Thompson averaged 2.3 points and 0.3 rebounds while playing three of four games. He averaged 1.3 points and 0.5 rebounds in 16 games as a freshman.
"Michael has decided to pursue opportunities at another school," said Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski. "He is leaving Duke in good academic standing and we wish him well in the future."
The 6-foot-10, 245-pound sophomore from Joliet, Illinois has watched as Shelden Williams saw most of the minutes at center. Thompson scored a season-high seven points in a 76-47 win over Liberty in the Great Alaska Shootout semifinals last week.
