FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) -- The UCLA Bruins wrapped up summer camp with a scrimmage on Saturday, but first-year coach Karl Dorrell will wait to name the starting quarterback.
"Both Drew [Olson] and Matt [Moore] worked well with the offense," said Dorrell, who spent the last three seasons as a Denver Bronco assistant coach. "The coaches and I will go back, watch film and evaluate each of their performances.
"We will make the best decision for this team, and that will come sometime next week."
The Bruins open the season Sept. 6 at Colorado.
Olson and Moore, both sophomores, threw the ball well during the 90-minute scrimmage at Cal State Fullerton.
Olson completed six of nine for 144 yards, including a 54-yard pass to redshirt freshman Idris Moss. Moore completed eight of 11 for 118 yards, with one interception.
Moore ran 29 plays and Olson 24.
Redshirt freshman Justin Medlock kicked field goals of 35, 30 and 20 yards and sophomore tight end Marcedes Lewis caught three passes for 72 yards.
Tyler Ebell, who led the Bruins in rushing last year but has missed practice recently because of fatigue, did not scrimmage.
"I'll be ready to go tomorrow, said Ebell, who rushed for 994 yards last year as a freshman. "Right now I'm 105 percent. The coaches decided to keep me out as a precautionary measure only."
The Bruins return to their campus in Westwood to complete preparations for the opener.
