EMU hires Northwestern assistant GenykPosted: Monday December 1, 2003 10:35AM; Updated: Monday December 1, 2003 12:36PM YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) -- Northwestern assistant Jeff Genyk was hired as Eastern Michigan's football coach on Monday. Genyk, who is completing his fifth season as the Wildcats running backs coach, replaces Jeff Woodruff, who was fired last month. Eastern completed a 3-9 season with a 38-24 loss to Northern Illinois on Nov. 22. Genyk, 43, also served as Northwestern's recruiting coordinator. He began his full-time assistant coaching duties at Northwestern in 1994 and was on the staff since 1992. In 2000, Genyk oversaw Damien Anderson's school-record 2,063-yard season. Genyk received his master's in education from Northwestern in 1994. He also has a master's in business. Genyk coached at Grand Rapids Community College where he tutored the quarterbacks and wide receivers. As an undergraduate, Genyk played quarterback at Bowling Green from 1978-81. |
