MOBILE, Ala. (AP) -- The NFL has selected San Diego Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer to coach one of the 2004 Senior Bowl teams, bowl officials announced Wednesday.

The Chargers are scheduled to coach the South squad in the Jan. 24 game in Mobile.

The NFL is expected to select the North team's coaching staff later this week.

This is Schottenheimer's fourth Senior Bowl assignment, after coaching in the 1990, '91 and '97 games while head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Schottenheimer recently completed his second season as head coach of the Chargers, and holds a career mark of 170-124 in 17 full seasons as an NFL head coach. He also served as head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 1985-88, Kansas City Chiefs from 1989-98 and the Washington Redskins in 2001.

The Chargers tied with three other teams at 4-12 record this season but theirs was deemed the NFL's worst record based on strength of schedule, earning them the No. 1 pick in the draft for the second time in four years.
