Ready for three-plus months' worth of Saturdays? SI.com's Luke Winn sifts through the college football calendar for the ultimate, one-game-a-week schedule.

  Aug. 23
California vs.
Kansas State

7:45 p.m., ESPN

We're watching this because ... well, after all, we cover college football, and it's a real live D I-A game, the first since Jan. 3 -- how can we not watch? Never mind the mismatch here, as Ell Roberson, Darren Sproles and K-State kick off their darkhorse run (with much running) at a national title while Jeff Tedford wonders if Kyle Boller could come back and help out, you know, if he's not too busy in Baltimore.

  Aug. 30
Washington at
Ohio State

8 p.m., ABC

What did Washington do to deserve this? First, the Huskies lose their coach, Rick Neuheisel. Next, they begin their season -- under the makeshift Keith Gilbertson regime -- at the raucous home of the defending national champ Buckeyes. Quietly, someone in Seattle is praying that one of Maurice Clarett's issues -- be it the sketchy rental car or the oral exam -- turns into a game-availability issue.

  Sept. 6
Florida at
Miami (Fla.)

8 p.m., ABC

So what if it's not Dorsey-Grossman this time around? Brock Berlin, who transferred from Florida to Miami in 2001 and was pegged as Dorsey's heir at quarterback soon thereafter, gets his first shot at his former mates at the Orange Bowl.

  Sept. 13
N.C. State at
Ohio State

Noon, ABC

Philip Rivers and the Wolfpack opened last season 9-0 -- but they never faced an opponent the caliber of the Buckeyes. Is N.C. State ready to be classified as a top 10 team? Is the rebuilt Ohio State defense still capable of putting Heisman-caliber QBs in a vice? We'll get both answers here.

  Sept. 20
Tennessee at
Florida

Noon, CBS

With apologies to Ingle Martin and Gavin Dickey, the odds that true freshman Chris Leak will be Florida's starting quarterback by this point (Week 4) are pretty good. And with apologies to all of the Gators, the odds that Tennessee will be a better team than the one that fumbled eight times against UF last year are pretty good, too.

  Sept. 27
Arizona State at
Oregon State

TBD

While USC and Washington State nurture new quarterbacks, these two Pac-10 up-and-comers boast legitimate stars behind center in Andrew Walter and Derek Anderson -- and that's why this battle of darkhorses could decide the league race.

  Oct. 4
Texas at
Kansas State

TBD
  Oct. 4
Tennessee at
Auburn

TBD
  Oct. 4
USC at
Arizona State

TBD

You've been forewarned -- these three marquee matchups could all be on at the same time, so have a plan (or a quick remote). Call it conference championship preview week, if you will. We'll see how new Longhorns quarterback Chance Mock fares against a real-life Big 12 defense; find out if Auburn really is the cream of the SEC crop, as just about everyone has predicted; and see just how tough USC can be without Carson Palmer.

  Oct. 11
Texas vs.
Oklahoma

TBD
  Oct. 11
Miami at
Florida State

TBD

Ah, the defining weekend of the season, when the Big 12 race is decided, Florida's best square off and we find out 1) if it really was Chris Simms' fault that Texas was losing to Oklahoma, or if it was Mack Brown's; and 2) which poison will be Bobby Bowden's: Wide Left or Wide Right.

  Oct. 18
USC at
Notre Dame

2:30 p.m., NBC

Ty Willingham's West Coast offense will be more visible in Year Two, meaning the Irish will actually be passing the football ... much like the Trojans did, over and over and over again, in a 44-13 thrashing of ND last season.

  Oct. 25
USC at
Washington

3:30 p.m., ABC

Washington has such a wealth of offensive talent, with Heisman candidates at quarterback (Cody Pickett) and wide receiver (Reggie Williams) -- but last year's Huskies had already dropped four games at this point. Let's hope Gilby can keep the UW from derailing early, setting up a battle with defending Pac-10 champ USC that's worth watching.

  Nov. 1
Miami at
Virginia Tech

TBD, ESPN

Imagine the bitterness factor here, had Virginia Tech been left in the dust by the ACC (per its original expanion plans) while the 'Canes played their farewell tour. Now, it's just the Defection Bowl. And the Big East will watch and weep.

  Nov. 8
Tennessee at
Miami

TBD

Seeing that this is the third Vols game on the list, let's hope they're actually worth watching come November. And where will the mighty 'Canes be at this point ? in the thick of the national title race, or shocked that they've already doubled Larry Coker's career loss total?

  Nov. 15
N.C. State at
Florida State

TBD

Maryland and Virginia backers will surely tell you otherwise, but the ACC race could very well be decided on this weekend. FSU may have had a tumultuous last season, and a troubled offseason, but the 'Noles will have one thing in their favor here: Adrian McPherson won't be sinking the ship.

  Nov. 22
Ohio State at
Michigan

12:15 p.m., ABC

As Columbus rioted last November, Ann Arbor groaned ... and then groaned even harder on Jan. 3. The Wolverines need to save face by taking down their bitter rivals this season. Having 100,000-plus on their side this time around should help John Navarre in his bid to finish a (seemingly) 10-year UM career on somebody's shoulders.

  Nov. 29
Miami (Fla.) at
Pittsburgh

TBD

The Panthers -- nearly the third top 10 team in the Big East -- are getting left behind in the new Big Least, but not without a chance to make a closing statement. The 'Canes survived a close call at the Orange Bowl last season, but Heinz Field will be angry this time around.

  Dec. 6   ? SEC Championship
  ? 7:30 p.m., CBS
  Dec. 6   ? Big 12 Championship
  ? 8 p.m., ABC

Oh, what a night it could be, with one half of the Sugar Bowl on the line in an Auburn-Georgia rematch in Atlanta, the other half at stake between Kansas State and Oklahoma in Kansas City ... just don't tell that to Ohio State, Virginia Tech and N.C. State.
