NEW YORK (AP) -- The NFL is looking into a report that the Washington Redskins tampered with safety Lawyer Milloy while he was still under contract to the New England Patriots.

"We're aware of the report and expect to look to into it," spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday.

On Saturday, SI.com quoted Milloy as saying that Washington made him an offer before the Patriots released him last week. That would be a violation of the NFL's tampering rules.

The Redskins called the report "absurd," and Milloy disputed the report Sunday, saying he "wasn't contacted by any other team" before the Patriots cut him.

For salary cap reasons, the Patriots had wanted Milloy to take a pay cut this season. When negotiations broke down, he was released Tuesday.

The four-time Pro Bowl selection signed a four-year, $15 million contract with Buffalo on Wednesday. He played in Sunday's 31-0 victory against the Patriots He deflected a pass that a teammate intercepted, recorded a sack and was in on five tackles.

Aiello said the league plans to interview the parties involved, with no timetable set for a resolution.

"It sounds like there may be some things that weren't totally above board," New England head coach Bill Belichick said Monday.
