The American cyclist was chosen by readers of Sports Illustrated For Kids magazine as the athlete of the year, edging baseball star Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals. Armstrong, who won his fifth straight Tour de France title last summer, received 8,599 votes of more than 43,000 cast. "It means a lot to me that it was voted on by kids," he said. Pujols was second with 8,514 votes, followed by LeBron James, Jason Kidd, Michael Vick and Roger Clemens. Last year's winner was Shaquille ONeal. |
