DALLAS (Ticker) -- Colin Clarke, who spent the final six games last season as interim coach of the Dallas Burn, on Thursday was named to the post on a full-time basis.
The 41-year-old native of Northern Ireland spent the past three seasons as an assistant with the Burn after compiling a 38-18 record in two seasons as coach of the Richmond Kickers of the A-League and a 16-9-3 mark with the San Diego Flash of the A-League in 2000.
During a 12-year playing career, Clarke scored 146 goals in 361 games in the English leagues. He also played 38 games for the Northern Ireland national team and scored a goal against Spain in the 1986 World Cup.
"With Colin, we have found someone with a unigue set of attributes," Burn general manager Greg Elliott said. "In addition to having a tremendous playing pedigree, he has enjoyed success as a professional head coach."
Clarke replaced Mike Jeffries in the midst of a 6-19-5 season.
