BLACKBURN, England (AP) -- Premier League club Blackburn is eager to sign U.S. striker Brian McBride on loan.

"I'm talking to his agent and my chief executive is trying to push things along with the organization over there," Blackburn manager Graeme Souness told Sky Sports News on Friday.

"We've declared our interest."

McBride, who plays for Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew, impressed while on a three-month loan with Everton early this year.

Everton wanted to keep McBride but couldn't afford to buy him. Souness said he would like McBride on loan when the transfer window opens Jan. 1, with a view to a permanent contract when the season ends in May.

"We've got four strikers who are quite similar and McBride is a different type of player," Souness said. "He's more of a target man and I feel he would complement what we have here already."

Blackburn is currently 16th out of the 20 club Premier League.
