Kobe Bryant trial to start August 27Posted: Friday June 25, 2004 6:44PM; Updated: Friday June 25, 2004 6:44PM EAGLE, Colo. (CNN) -- The sexual assault trial for NBA star Kobe Bryant will start Aug. 27, and is expected to last three or four weeks. Jury selection should take four or five days, the court has announced. Bryant is accused of assaulting a 19-year-old woman last June 30 at a nearby resort where the woman worked and where the Los Angeles Lakers guard was a guest. Bryant said the sex was consensual. Thursday, the judge in the case ordered media outlets that had accidentally received transcripts from Monday and Tuesday's closed door hearings to destroy them and not reveal their contents, or face contempt of court charges. The transcripts -- which include secret testimony about the alleged victim's sexual history -- were erroneously e-mailed Thursday to seven media outlets by a court reporter, the Denver Post said. "The order itself is pretty explanatory," Judge Terry Ruckriegle told the Post. "There was an error made, and I was communicating to everyone that it's consistent with the previous positions that it was inappropriate to release that. "And that's really all there is to it right now." CNN Correspondent Gary Tuchman contributed to this report
