HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Clyde Vaughan, an assistant basketball coach at the University of Connecticut, was among more than a dozen people arrested Wednesday morning in a prostitution sting run by Hartford police.

Vaughan, 42, was charged with patronizing a prostitute and interfering with police after authorities said he tried to pay an undercover officer $10 for oral sex. Police said he struggled with officers when he learned he was part of a sting.

Vaughan, who will be entering his third year as an assistant coach for the defending national champions, was released on $2,500 bail.

A graduate and former player at the University of Pittsburgh, Vaughan was an assistant coach at the University of South Florida for three years and at Long Beach State University for seven years before coming to Connecticut. He played professionally in England after graduating from Pitt.

UConn's Web site says Vaughan has a "nationally known reputation as an outstanding recruiter and teacher of front court players."

Vaughan could not be reached for comment Wednesday night. UConn listed his home as being in Manchester; his phone number is not listed.

A UConn spokesman had no immediate comment.
