Katie Hnida Timeline: 1998-2004
1998: She connects on 27 of 28 PAT's and is 3-for-3 on field goals as a senior at Chatfield High School in Littleton, Colo., earning an invite to walk on at Colorado by then-coach Rick Neuheisel.
1999 preseason: With Neuheisel gone to Washington, new coach Gary Barnett keeps the offer to Hnida open and she joins the Buffaloes.
Sept. 18, 1999: In a 51-17 win over Kansas, she becomes the second woman to suit up for a Division I-A football game. Over the course of the season, Hnida "dealt with a lot of sexual harassment."
Dec. 31, 1999: Makes history by becoming the first woman to suit up for a bowl game when Colorado beats Boston College 62-28 in the Insight.com Bowl. She does not see the field in her first season and Barnett remarks that she "wasn't a very good kicker."
Summer 2000: Hnida is allegedly raped by a fellow member of the CU football team. She does not report the incident.
Fall 2000: She falls ill with tonsillitis and does not make the team roster.
Spring 2001: A depressed Hnida drops out of Colorado after her sophomore year.
Fall 2001: She begins classes at Santa Barbara (Calif.) City College but does not play football.
Fall 2002: After transferring to New Mexico, she joins the Lobos team as a junior walk-on and becomes the third-string kicker under coach Rocky Long.
Dec. 25, 2002: Hnida becomes first female to play in a I-A football game, but her extra-point attempt against UCLA in the Las Vegas Bowl is blocked.
Aug. 22, 2003: A story in the Albuquerque Tribune contains her first public allegations of sexual harassment during her time spent at Colorado.
Aug. 30, 2003: She kicks two extra-points in a 72-8 win over Texas State-San Marcos to become the first female to score in a I-A football game.
Feb. 13, 2004: Hnida submits an application to the NCAA asking to be granted sixth year of eligibility, due to her inactivity during the 2000-01 season. A ruling has not yet been made.
Feb. 17, 2004: Hnida makes her first allegation of rape against a former Colorado teammate in a Sports Illustrated column by Rick Reilly.
