Dolphins may be without QBs Fiedler and FeeleyPosted: Monday October 11, 2004 2:24PM; Updated: Monday October 11, 2004 2:27PM MIAMI (Ticker) -- The nightmare continues for Dave Wannstedt. The Miami Dolphins, who are off to their worst start at 0-5 since their inaugural season in 1966, may be without quarterbacks Jay Fiedler and A.J. Feeley when they play the Buffalo Bills this weekend. Fiedler aggravated a rib injury when he was sacked for a 12-yard loss by safety Rodney Harrison in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 24-10 loss to the New England Patriots. Feeley replaced Fiedler and suffered a concussion after he was hit by linebacker Roosevelt Colvin on a fourth-down play. "It looks like Jay's injury is worse (than Feeley's)," said Wannstedt, the beleaguered Dolphins coach who had to contend with the stunning retirement of star running back Ricky Williams as well as numerous injuries. The injuries to both quarterbacks may force the Dolphins to give third-stringer Sage Rosenfels his first NFL start Sunday at Buffalo. The Bills (0-4) are the league's only other winless team. Rosenfels has thrown just nine passes over the last two seasons with Miami after being acquired from Washington in 2002. Fiedler passed for a season-high 251 yards but also fumbled and threw an interception in the loss at New England for his seventh and eighth turnovers of the season. Fiedler first injured his rib in an October 3 loss to the New York Jets. Wannstedt has played musical chairs with his quarterbacks, announcing Fiedler as the starter in the preseason and then pulling him at halftime of the season-opening loss to Tennessee. Feeley started the next two games before Wannstedt switched back to Fiedler for the game against the Jets. But nothing seems to be working for Wannstedt in what is rapidly becoming a lost season for the Dolphins. Even before the loss at New England, the Dolphins lost kicker Olindo Mare in pregame warmups to a strained left calf. That forced them to use rookie punt returner Wes Welker, who kicked a 29-yard field goal and converted an extra point. Williams started a disastrous chain of events for the Dolphins with his retirement in the preseason. Miami then lost receiver David Boston for the season with a torn ACL and both starting defensive tackles - Tim Bowens and Larry Chester - are sidelined with injuries. © 2004 SportsTicker Enterprises, LP |
