INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- After a rain delay of one hour and 47 minutes, the Indianapolis 500 has resumed.

The start of the race was delayed two hours and seven minutes to dry the race track after morning rain and then was red-flagged after 29 laps because of a heavy rain shower.

Second-year driver Dan Wheldon is the leader in a Dallara/Honda ahead of two-time Indy 500 champion Helio Castroneves. Wheldon's Andretti Green Racing teammate Tony Kanaan is third followed by pole-winner Buddy Rice.

Three of the top four cars are powered by Honda engines and the top three are Dallara chassis. Sam Hornish Jr. is fifth in a Dallara/Toyota.

Rice started on the pole and led the first 11 laps until a caution flag waved after A.J. Foyt IV spun and crashed in the first turn. The leaders pitted during the caution and when the green flag waved on lap 16, Bryan Herta was in front of Ed Carpenter and Wheldon. Wheldon took the lead on that lap and stayed in front until rain began to fall on lap 27.

By lap 29, it was too heavy to continue. The stoppage forced Robby Gordon to turn his car over to relief driver Jacque Lazier.

Gordon departed for Concord, N.C., for Sunday night's NASCAR Nextel Cup Coca-Cola 600.

A 400 Miles

• A crash by rookie Marty Roth brought the seventh yellow, shuffling the leaders again.

• After the green came out on the 138th lap, Bruno Junqueira had passed Tony Kanaan and Dan Wheldon for the lead, and Buddy Rice was up to fourth.

• Helio Castroneves, who had been running third, missed his pit, then stalled his car, and dropped to 17th.

• Junqueira built his lead over Kanaan to more than three seconds after 150 of the race's 200 laps, and Rice passed Wheldon for third.

• Junqueira had to pit for fuel on the next lap, however, and Rice moved up to the lead again.

• After 160 laps -- 400 miles -- Rice led Kanaan by 2.7 seconds. Wheldon was third and Herta fourth.

Top 10: Buddy Rice, Tony Kanaan, Dan Wheldon, Bryan Herta, Scotty Dixon, Adrian Fernandez, Vitor Meira, Roger Yasukawa, Kosuke Matsuura, Helio Castroneves.

• The leaders again took advantage of the yellow for fuel stops, but Buddy Rice's engine stalled and by the time he got out of the pits, he had dropped from first to eighth, with Dan Wheldon taking the lead and Tony Kanaan running second. Kanaan passed Wheldon, his teammate, just before another crash involving Hornish, Manning and Greg Ray on the 105th lap. Castroneves was third, less than one second behind Kanaan. • The yellow came out again on the first lap after the green flag was displayed, when rookies Ed Carpenter and Mark Taylor collided and went into the wall.
