FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) -- Brian McBride helped to make sure Claudio Reyna's 100th international game had a happy ending.

McBride scored twice to move into second place on the American career list and Reyna became the seventh U.S. player with 100 appearances, leading the United States over Honduras 4-0 Wednesday night. (U.S. Schedule and Results)

"It was a great milestone to reach," Reyna said. "It makes it a whole lot better to get a win, a convincing win."

In the final tuneup for the Americans before the start of World Cup qualifying, Eddie Lewis and Tony Sanneh also scored, and Tim Howard got a shutout in his first game for the national team in nearly a year.

Playing against a team coached by former U.S. coach Bora Milutinovic, McBride scored on a header in the 22nd minute off a cross from Steve Cherundolo, then made it 2-0 in the 37th off a pass from Conor Casey.

McBride has 25 international goals, nine behind Eric Wynalda's U.S. record.

"The first one was a big one because it was difficult for us to get quality chances," U.S. coach Bruce Arena said. "I'm sure this will give him confidence heading into qualifying."

The victory was the third straight for the United States (3-1-2 this year), which opens qualifying play with a series against Grenada that starts June 13 at Columbus, Ohio, and finishes a week later in the Caribbean nation.

Lewis scored in the 77th, and Sanneh connected four minutes later off a restart by Reyna.

Reyna, the U.S. captain, joined Cobi Jones (160), Jeff Agoos (134), Marcelo Balboa (128), Paul Caligiuri (110), Eric Wynalda (106) and Joe-Max Moore (100) in the 100-appearance club.

Earnie Stewart came on in the second half for his 98th appearance, one behind goalkeeper Tony Meola, and they both could reach 100 against Grenada.

The U.S. team played with a man advantage after Honduran midfielder Amado Guevara was ejected in the 39th minute for hitting DeMarcus Beasley in the face with his arm following a battle for the ball.

Howard, the goalkeeper of the year in the English Premier League for Manchester United, got his fourth shutout in 10 international appearances.

Arena, who termed the American performance as "average," limited his Major League Soccer players to 45 minutes because he didn't want to have those players make three appearances in a week.

"All in all, to get 16 players in, and getting a win, that's a positive," Arena said.

Notes: Guevara, who plays for the MetroStars, is the only member of the Honduran roster currently playing professionally in the United States. ... Reyna made his international debut in 1994. ... The Americans are 4-1 in Gillette Stadium, outscoring opponents 11-0 in their last four games there.
