MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Jair Garcia converted a penalty kick for Puebla to save his team from defeat in a 1-1 tie against Sinaloa on Sunday in Mexican first division soccer.

With the tie, Puebla remained in first place in Group 2, tied with Toluca for the best record in the group and division after three weeks of play in the winter season.

Brazilian Paulo Antonio de Oliveira scored for the Dorados of Sinaloa in minute 30, driving a booming shot with his left foot past goalie Oscar Dautt.

Garcia evened the score on a penalty kick in minute 61 after Martin Andrizzi fouled Gabriel Caballero.

Atlante won its first game this season Sunday, rolling over the Tecos 4-0 on two goals by Chilean Sebastian Gonzalez. Gabriel Rey also scored and the Tecos' Antonio Huerta was responsible for a goal against his own team.

America and Santos Laguna tied 1-1 as the teams exchanged goals in the second half.

Santos' Matias Vuoso put the ball behind goalie Sebastian Saja in minute 55, while America recovered in minute 88 as Brazilian Djalma "Djalminha" Feitosa blasted in a goal from 25 meters (27.35 yards) out.

On Saturday, Amaury Ponce scored in the final three minutes to rescue Toluca from defeat in a 1-1 tie against the Chivas of Guadalajara on Saturday in Mexican first division soccer.

Playing away from home and with 10 men after the expulsion of defender Edgar Duenas in minute 41, Toluca kept the Chivas scoreless until the 75th minute, when Omar Bravo fired in a goal past Toluca keeper Hernan Cristante.

Ponce evened the score in the 87th minute on a precise pass from Manuel Abundis.

Also on Saturday, Atlas beat the Jaguares of Chiapas 2-1, the Rayados of Monterrey shut out Cruz Azul 3-0, Veracruz defeated Morelia 2-1 and Necaxa overcame the Tigres of the National Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon 2-1.

Atlas' victory came down to a spurt of goals at the close of the first half, as Daniel Osorno and Uruguayan Carlos Morales found the net in the 43rd and 44th minutes.

Monterrey's Guillermo Franco, Oribe Peralta and Brazilian Argemiro Veiga scored in minutes 16, 79 and 90 respectively. Franco has scored four times in the season's first three games.

Veracruz surprised Morelia early with goals in the seventh and eight minute by Walter Jimenez and Christian Gimienez. Morelia's Rafael Marquez, who played on Mexico's Olympic squad, pumped in a goal in the 72nd minute. Nevertheless, Morelia lost its third straight game.

The defending champion Pumas are to face Pachuca on Sept. 8. The rest of the division has the coming week off as Mexico's national team travels to Germany.
