Jamaica routs El Salvador on road; Costa Rica beats Canada

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (AP) -- CONCACAF champion Mexico opened its World Cup qualifying campaign Wednesday with a decisive 3-1 win over group leader Trinidad and Tobago, while the United States escaped with a 1-1 tie against Panama.
Costa Rica defeated Canada 1-0 and Guatemala tied Honduras 2-2 in Group B play, while Jamaica downed El Salvador 3-0 in Group A.
Jose De Jesus Arellano scored a first-minute goal and added a second to lead Mexico past Group C leader Trinidad.
Jared Borgetti added to Mexico's lead in the 20th minute, poking in a loose ball from close range while falling to the ground.
Birmingham City striker Stern John scored in the 40th minute for Trinidad and Tobago.
The win was Mexico's third victory in six World Cup qualifying matches against Trinidad, having also lost two and drawn once.
Trinidad still leads Group C with six points from three matches, ahead of Mexico on three points. St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines trail with no points.
In Panama City, Panama, Cobi Jones scored two minutes into second-half injury time as the United States escaped with a draw against Panama in Group A.
Roberto Brown's goal in the 69th minute had put 110th-ranked Panama on track for a huge upset against the 10th-ranked Americans.
Marlon King scored two goals at San Salvador, El Salvador to lead Jamaica over El Salvador 3-0 in the other Group A match.
King scored 3 minutes into the match and struck again at 37 minutes, while teammate Ricardo Fuller scored the third goal one minute later.
The United States leads Group A with five points, one ahead of Panama and Jamaica, and two clear of El Salvador.
In San Pedro Sula, Honduras, Carlos Ruiz scored one goal and set up another as Guatemala tied Honduras 2-2.
Ruiz scored after 17 minutes on a pass from Guillermo Ramirez, then set up teammate Dwight Pezzarossi with a pass for a goal in the 47th minute.
Honduras answered with goals by Amado Guevara in the 50th minute and David Suazo at the 63rd
Paulo Wanchope opened the second half with a goal at San Jose, Costa Rica to lead the home team to a win over Canada.
Wanchope kicked in left-footed shot off a long pass just moments into the second half, all but killing off Canada's chances of advancing to the next round.
Guatemala is now two points clear atop the Group B standings, ahead of Honduras on five and Costa Rica with three. Canada trails with one point from three games.
