SIENA, Italy (AP) -- Siena drew 1-1 with Serie A newcomer Messina on Thurday and qualified for a showdown with AS Roma in the third round of the Italian Cup. Siena advanced on a 2-1 aggregate, thanks to its 1-0 victory at Messina in the first leg.
On Thursday, Bruno Cirillo gave Siena the lead in the 69th and Nicola Amoruso equalized 10 minutes later. The victory completed the third-round field, which includes seven teams from the Serie A and second-division Torino. The loss eliminated Messina, leaving it to concentrate on its play in Serie A, where it is in second place, two points behind Juventus. The first leg of the third round is scheduled for December, with defending champion Lazio playing Cagliari, AC Milan taking on Palermo, Juventus paired with Atalanta and Inter Milan with Bologna. |
