Spring training is a great time for optimism. No team has lost a game yet that counted. Every young prospect is going to be the next phenom. Every player coming off a bad season or injury is going to be the comeback player of the year. Even the Brewers have hope ... well, now there is such a thing as getting a little too much sun this time of year.

The fact is, every team faces burning questions as Opening Day approaches. And we've got 'em. As for the answers, check back in seven months. In order of 2003 finishes, here are the 2004 Burning Questions.

St. Louis Cardinals: Who will earn the leftfield job? Do they have enough pitching to stay with Chicago and Houston? Might this be Tony La Russa's last season in St. Louis?

Pittsburgh Pirates: Raul Mondesi: why? The annual question: Isn't it time for Kris Benson to step up?

Cincinnati Reds: Is there a lesser accomplished rotation in baseball? Can Wily Mo Pena get at-bats?
