DeLAND, Fla. (Ticker) - One of the youngest men's basketball coaches in Division I, Derek Waugh will have the chance to get a little older at Stetson.
Stetson signed the 33-year-old Waugh to a three-year contract extension, Hatters athletic director Jeff Altier announced Wednesday.
Waugh has recorded a 51-73 record in his five seasons with the Hatters, including 10-14 this season, a campaign that has been highlighted by a 56-52 victory over Georgia on December 31 - the program's first win over a Southeastern Conference opponent in 21 years.
"Derek and his staff are taking our men's basketball program in the right direction," Altier said. "They have overcome significant obstacles, they have enhanced recruiting - especially within the state of Florida - and they have effectively changed the style of play that will help the program reach a high level of success in the near future."
