So you've been mining the available middle relief pitchers to find some vulture wins. Has it been successful? How many losses did you pick up for your trouble? To help your efforts, I'll look at the King Vulture (most wins as a reliever) and King Turkey (most losses as a reliever) for each club and see if it was who we thought it would be. I've also ranked the top three teams in terms of middle relief wins and the top three vultures, each by league. I have not ranked the top turkeys, since once a reliever gets a certain number of losses, they find themselves on a bus to AAA or selling insurance. A vulture, on the other hand, should keep his job all year, unless he's placed in the rotation.

National League

Arizona Diamondbacks (14-19)

KING VULTURE: Lance Cormier (7-3) [T-2]

KING TURKEY: Jose Valverde (2-4)

So what, is it a gaggle of turkeys? Whatever it is, that's the Diamondbacks' bullpen (The Turkey Pen?). They are dangerously close to ending the year with an ERA over 6.00, which would be as phenomenal an achievement -- in a dubious way -- as ending the year under 2.00.

Atlanta Braves (23-24) [T-3]

KING VULTURE: Adam Bernero (4-3)/John Foster (4-2)

KING TURKEY: Danny Kolb (3-7)

Bernero got out to an early start and then stalled. As expected, this bullpen has more losses than wins, and Kolb is their King Turkey on many levels. Note that he is tied with Braden Looper and Luis Ayala for the NL Turkey crown. Gobble, gobble.

Chicago Cubs (19-25)

KING VULTURE: Mike Wuertz (5-2)

KING TURKEY: Roberto Novoa (3-5)

This is a bad bullpen that is hated by its starting rotation. Wuertz looked like he was going to be a force as a vulture, but the team started tanking about mid-season.
