9/14 ATLANTA THRASHERS The Thrashers finished second in the Southeast behind the eventual Cup-winning Lightning, but Atlanta's 78 points were not enough to earn a playoff spot.
9/15 CAROLINA HURRICANES The Hurricanes finished third in the Southeast division with 76 points and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year since reaching the Stanley Cup Finals.
9/16 TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING Tampa Bay captured its first Stanley Cup, winning the Game 7 final against Calgary 2-1. The Lightning set the tone in the regular season with 106 points, tops in the East.
9/18 FLORIDA PANTHERS The Panthers finished fourth in the Southeast division with 75 points, missing the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
9/19 WASHINGTON CAPITALS The Capitals finished last in the Southeast division with 59 points to miss the playoffs for the second time in the last three seasons.
9/20 NEW JERSEY DEVILS The Devils finished second in the Atlantic division with 100 points, but lost to the Flyers in the first round of the playoffs.
9/21 NEW YORK ISLANDERS The Islanders finished third in the Atlanta division with 91 points and made the playoffs, losing in five games of the first round to eventual Stanley Cup champ Tampa Bay.
9/22 PHILADELPHIA FLYERS The Flyers finished first in the Atlantic division with 101 points, but lost in the Eastern Conference finals in seven games to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
9/23 BOSTON BRUINS The Bruins finished first in the Northeast division with 104 points but lost in the first round in seven games to Montreal.
9/26 NEW YORK RANGERS The Rangers finished fourth in the Atlantic division with 69 points, missing the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season.
9/26 PITTSBURGH PENGUINS The Penguins finished last in the Atlantic division with 58 points, missing the playoffs for the third consecutive season.
9/27 BUFFALO SABRES The Sabres finished last in the Northeast Division with 85 points, missing the playoffs for the third consecutive year.
9/27 MONTREAL CANADIENS The Canadiens finished fourth in the Northeast Division with 93 points to make the playoffs for just the second time since 1998.
9/28 OTTAWA SENATORS The Senators finished third in the Northeast Division with 102 points, making the playoffs for the eighth consecutive season. But the Sens lost in seven games to Toronto in the first round.
9/28 TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS The Maple Leafs finished second in the Northeast Division with 103 points to make the playoffs. They lost to the Philadelphia in the second round.
