AFTER 2 A.M.: Typical campus-grade $1 pizza awaits at the Back Room.

MUST-EAT: Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger, which boasts "Cheaper than food since 1953," specializes in cheap, wafer-thin sliders served Soup-Nazi style: heavy on the attitude. In '96, the Michigan Daily reported one student scarfed 37 patties in 70 minutes.

DOSE OF CULTURE: Four -- count 'em, four -- art fairs converge on downtown July 19-22 in 2006. Free music. Tons of food. Enough art to fill the Big House.

RULE #57: The Naked Mile? That's illegal. But keep an ear open in April. There's usually an impromptu sprint.

MUSIC MUST-STOP: The Blind Pig, an ex-furniture store turned music venue, has been graced by the likes of Jimmy Hendrix and John Lennon. Nowadays its mostly indie stuff like the Electric Six (Oct. 15). Oh, and Monday is Karaoke Night.

GETTING AROUND: The "Ace-Deuce" begs to be treated like a big city, so transportation is strictly by cab.

TICKET MASTER: UM's girthy Greek system can be mined for big tickets. A sorority house may be the best place to start.

ONLY AT MICHIGAN: On the corner of State Street and Hoover Avenue, a particular student house discards of its empty kegs on football Saturdays by riding them, logrolling style, across the street through traffic.

PREGAME/POSTGAME: Before the Michigan State game (they play away in '06) some bent-up fraternity generally purchases an old van and paints it Spartan Green. Students can sledgehammer the holy bejeesus out of it for a buck. Postgame, high-tail it to Rick's to beat the round-the-corner lines.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Ohio State-UM football, Nov. 19. Dave Chappelle played the pro-hemp Hash Bash (May) in 2004. And you're always likely to spot sophomore Michael Phelps at a men's swim event (first home meet: Jan. 21).

PACK YOUR: Best yellow -- or maize, if you know what that is -- shirt. The Big House looks so much cooler when everyone matches.

RITE OF PASSAGE: That big painted rock on the corner of Hill Street and Washtenaw Avenue -- it's got some tradition. (Yeah, we know. Soooo high school.) Slop on some paint and take a pic quick, 'cuz there's probably someone waiting to do the same thing.
