The Ultimate TeamPosted: Friday October 7, 2005 11:53AM; Updated: Friday October 7, 2005 4:26PM In Wednesday's Vent, we asked if a dominant team such as USC could beat a hapless NFL club like San Francisco. The answer, according to those who wrote in, was a resounding NO (along with some other choice words for even posing such a question). There were a few people, however, that felt a college "dream team" could compete, and even defeat, an NFL squad. There are two problems with this hypothetical argument. First, there is absolutely no way a game like this would ever happen. Second, nobody would ever agree on exactly who would make up this dream team. We can't do much about the first problem, but the second we can handle. To help come up with our dream team we called on our good friends at All Things Longhorn, Decatur Dawg, Every Day Should be Saturday, Heisman Pundit and Straight Bangin'. Here is our all-star squad. QUARTERBACK
All Things Longhorn: Vince Young, Texas -- He's a taller Michael Vick. He's turned the once-timid Longhorns into a cocky bunch that finally knows how good they are. And will be responsible for finally (FINALLY!) delivering a conference championship. Straight Bangin: Matt Leinart, USC -- Leinart can make every throw and is a savvy field general. He throws the nicest deep ball I've ever seen in college and his touch is as close to perfect as you'll find. He is even a deceptively effective scrambler when a situation dictates, however he won't bail out on a play, forfeiting an important completion. RUNNING BACKDecatur Dawg: Reggie Bush, USC -- I'd take Reggie Bush and it isn't even close. He's the single most dominating player in college football (at any position) since Bo Jackson. Straight Bangin: Michael Hart - Hart doesn't possess top-end speed and isn't explosive like a Reggie Bush, however he is an excellent blocker, an excellent receiver, and has excellent vision. He also NEVER goes down upon first contact and has proven his reliability and durability. Hart, more than any other back, allows a team to play multiple styles, from the deliberate to the two-minute, and from the shotgun to the power I. He also is a steadying and edifying presence in the huddle and on the field, always leading by example. A complete back. WIDE RECEIVERHeisman Pundit: Dwayne Jarrett, USC -- He is, quite simply, a touchdown machine (20 TD receptions in 17 career games). All Things Longhorn: Derrick Williams, Penn State -- Williams will help Joe Paterno get his one last winning season so he can finally retire and the college football world can move on from this drawn out saga. For that earthshaking development alone, he's on the team. | ||||
