AFTER 2 A.M.: The Pita Pit is the place to go to get your late-night grub on. You can get just about anything from veggies to kebobs stuffed in a warm pita and drenched in your favorite dressing as late as 4 a.m.

MUST-EAT: Taylor's Bar & Grille serves up a tasty bacon cheeseburger and fries for $6, which you can wash down with tasty microbrews for as little as $1 during happy hour. Open until 2:30 a.m. every day, Taylor's turns into a hot campus hangout once the sun sets.

DOSE OF CULTURE: Even the most unathletic individual should make it a point to go for a run on Pre's Trail, a 3.8-mile bark trail along the Willamette River created in honor of the late Oregon track star Steve Prefontaine.

RULE #86: It's pronounced Or-ee-gone, and the mascot's name is Puddles, not Donald.

MUSIC MUST-STOP: McArthur Court may be the home of Oregon's basketball and volleyball teams, but it's also hosted some big names recently, including Sting and Dave Chappelle.

GETTING AROUND: The local public transportation outfit offers free shuttles for students, and if you're lucky you'll find yourself on one of the classic buses still in use with brown vinyl seats and wood paneling.

TICKETMASTER: If you can't get tickets from the school's box office, eBay is often the best bet.

ONLY AT OREGON: No school in the country is more swooshed up than Oregon, which has a Nike logo on every nook and cranny of every one of its athletic facilities.

PREGAME: Take a nice stroll from campus to Autzen Stadium via one of the scenic bike paths that cross the Willamette River. Then find the first welcoming tailgate party you see.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: The Civil War between Oregon State and Oregon takes place at Autzen Stadium on Nov. 19.

PACK YOUR: Umbrella. Everyone in Eugene will tell you, "It never rains at Autzen," but bring an umbrella anyway. You'll thank us later.

RITE OF PASSAGE: The inside joke among locals is that all you need is a pair of Birkenstocks and a tie-dyed shirt if you want to fit in.
