Replays at the time could not confirm conclusively whether Texas Tech running back Taurean Henderson stretched the ball across the goal line before he was down. Henderson was awarded the touchdown on the field, and the call was upheld by replay for a 23-21 Tech victory. Northwestern's bowl prospects gained some clarity over the weekend as it became likely the Wildcats will face an opponent from the Atlantic Coast Conference or the Pac-10. Navy has accepted an invitation to play in the first Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 22 in San Diego. The game will pit the Midshipmen (6-4) against an opponent to be determined from the Mountain West Conference, most likely Colorado State (6-5). The ACC yesterday reached an agreement with the Music City Bowl in Nashville to place one of the conference's bowl-eligible teams in the Dec. 30 game against an opponent from the Big Ten. The ACC also is close to an agreement with the Dec. 29 Emerald Bowl in San Francisco, which would match an ACC team against the Mountain West's No. 2 team, probably Utah. Columbia moved quickly to repair the rift created by Sunday's firing of football coach Bob Shoop, promoting offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Rich Skrosky to acting head coach and vowing to find Shoop's permanent replacement by mid-December. Columbia Athletic Director Dianne Murphy said yesterday that someone out there had the skills to turn the Lions into a winner, and she was intent on finding him. Columbia failed to win a game in Ivy League play this season. | |||
