Sure, there is a lot of posturing on Facebook. It's the college bar scene and you want send out the right vibe. You don't want to seem too uptight, but you also want to avoid looking too needy.

Facebook.com also lets you express your inner dork. For example, your favorite movie is St. Elmo's Fire. You can click on the title and be magically transported to a list of other people at your school who just can't get enough of the Brat Pack. The facebook teaches you that you are not alone and don't need to sit in an empty apartment after all your furniture has been repossessed and rock slowly back and forth.

I practically fell in love when I read that one of Louisville quarterback Brian Bohm's favorite books is Ender's Game.

Quotes

I don't know about you, but when I look at a person's quotes I usually prefer ones that are somewhat anecdotal. It's totally acceptable to quote from your favorite book or a political figure, but don't over do it on the clichés. Like everything else this page is about who you are.

Here is one of my quotes and I'll tell you what it says about me.

"Donna Martin graduates. Donna Martin graduates."

I loved 90210 growing up. I enjoy pop culture. And if my friend was found to be drunk at the prom and the school board decided to expel her, I would lead a protest during exams and march to the steps of the school board building.

Messaging

Writing messages or wall posts is the new passive-aggressive way to contact someone, even more so than text messaging. The late night wall post is exciting because it's like a drunk dial, but it's available for the entire world to see.

Groups

Perhaps the greatest aspect of facebook.com. Like the photos, there are various types of groups.

The time capsule -- The facebook.com is not only reflection of you but also of your entire generation. Therefore when I stumbled upon the I'm So Excited....i'm So Excited....i'm So...so...scared(brown Chapter)"  I just had to join. I don't know if Saved By the Bell impacted my life as much.

The sports group -- There are a ton out there. There is the generic team group: Brown Football 2005 or the more personal Charlie Weis Is the Biggest Pimp of all Time.

For some unknown reason the "I went to Public School...bitches" or "I went to private school...bitches" group thing is very popular.

My own personal favorite is Let's Just Pretend We Never Graduated, a group in which alumni can congregate and lament the fact that we miss college so much we find ourselves writing columns about facebook.com just to re-connect with our youth.

Sigh.
