MLS fines D.C. United's Adu, Gomez

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- D.C. United midfielders Christian Gomez and Freddy Adu were fined by the MLS on Tuesday for their actions in a 4-0 loss to the Chicago Fire in the Eastern Conference semifinals on Oct. 30.

With the loss, United fell short in an attempt to defend the MLS Cup.

Gomez, who spit in the face of Chicago defender C.J. Brown in the 55th minute of the setback, was fined an additional $750 on top of a $250 fine and a one-game suspension for receiving a red card.

Gomez will serve the suspension in the first game of the 2006 regular season.

The teenage sensation who recently voiced his frustrations about a lack of playing time, Adu was fined $500 for the reckless nature of a foul he committed in the 80th minute against midfielder Logan Pause.

Also, Colorado Rapids forward Jovan Kirovski was fined $250 for derogatory comments made about a news article on Thursday.
