4.Josh Childress. The tremendous afro is tough to get over, but he's quietly developed into a really good NBA player, averaging 16 points and 7 boards a game in April.
3.Mike Woodson. While Woody's going to finish his first year as head coach with the worst record in the NBA, the Hawks are poised to get the top pick in the draft. Last year's coach, Terry Stotts, was more concerned with his win/loss totals than the long-term health of the franchise, and he led the Hawks on a late-season run that knocked us out of the Dwight Howard race. Thanks, Terry!
2. Cap room. The Hawks enter this offseason with at least $25 million to spend, the most in the NBA. If they draft Andrew Bogut and sign Sammy Dalembert and Earl Watson, they'll have a much-improved rotation. And they'll still be in one of the weakest divisions in the NBA.
1. Hope. The one thing we have that you can't take away. The Hawks are bad, but we've got nowhere to go but up. The bandwagon is wide open, and I'm driving. See you in the NBA Finals ... one of these years.

American Dream Of The Week
Last week we noted The Pirate Captain, a swashbuckling North Carolina State student in the running for student body president. Well, guess what? He won, and then delivered an acceptance speech "relatively light on pirate-speak." But really, isn't any pirate-speak too much pirate-speak?
