3. Back To School! -- This series, loosely based on the classic Rodney Dangerfield-flick of the same name, will be the cornerstone of NFL Network programming for years to come. Each season, NFL Films cameras follow a big-name player back to college and watch as he attempts to get the degree he never finished. While some players are missing only a class here or there, others, such as first-season breakout star Maurice Clarett, have convoluted transcripts, forcing them to take five or six classes in a summer session to graduate. (Thanks to a little tweaking behind the scenes from NFL Network producers, some player's academic histories have been adjusted in order to allow for more dramatic television.) And, in a snarl straight out of Old School, no one will want to miss the season finale, when Clarett needs to pull an improbable B in rhythmic gymnastics in order to get his diploma.
4. My Name Is Ricky -- Loosely based on NBC's upcoming sitcom My Name is Earl this series, narrated by Morgan Freeman, chronicles Dolphins running back Ricky Williams as he travels the globe and attempts to right any possible karmic wrongs he's committed. In episode one, Williams returns to the Australian campground where he spent much of his lost season and reunites with his friends Dingo and Carrot, and the trio spend an evening sitting around a campfire, pondering the meaning of life. (Note: Because we're not sure if this show will keep Ricky's attention for a year, for season two we're planning on sending Ricky on location, to places rife with potential for fun. Amsterdam and The Burning Man Festival have already been approved.)
5. Quite Frankly with Terrell E. Owens -- Finally, one of sports' most outspoken personalities will have his own forum and a chance to tell us all what he thinks about the big issues of the day. Big guests? Hot topics? Controversy? Check, check, check. This hour-long show will air nightly, anchoring the NFL Network's block of news programming. Love him or hate him, quite frankly, you'll know what TO thinks!
Game Of The Week
It's been a while since a game has gripped me like this one. I played it all day yesterday while catching up on Tommy Lee Goes to College. Awesome in its simplicity.
Interesting Thing I Learned While Writing This Column
Terrell Owens' middle name is Eldorado.
Technophile Link Of The Week
If you want technology, look to Japan, where the latest gadget is a robot that will guard your house while you're on vacation. If it senses someone breaking into your house, it'll call your cell phone. I think I'd rather have it call the police, but still...
