Father Time is in the lay-up line (no, we're not talking about you, Dikembe Mutombo). Baby New Year is lacing up his sneakers (or is that just one of Pat Riley's sumo wrestlers?). Yes, it's almost time to usher out 2005 and ring in 2006.
If Dick Clark needs a replacement for this year's Rockin' Eve celebration in Times Square, he won't have to look far. There's a guy just a few blocks away who knows all too well what a difference a year makes. Of course, Larry Brown has 50 million reasons not to shed any tears over going from Detroit to New York -- even though they close out '05 as the top and bottom teams in the Power Rankings.
This week's high riser: NETS (No. 4 from 15) This week's big drop: BULLS (No. 25 from 19)
Talk about sending messages! They beat the Spurs and Heat while running their win streak to nine straight. They're actually ahead of the Suns' sensational start of a season ago, and on pace for 73 wins.
Turnaround on the Turnpike: They cooled off the Cavs on Tuesday night to make it seven straight victories and nine of 12 overall. It marks the second straight week they've been high riser in these Power Rankings.
They were riding a nice six-game win streak of their own (and actually playing some D) until running into the Nets. They'd love to get back on track vs. Detroit on Saturday at the Q, where they are 12-3 this season.
