1. Fans of the Danish soccer team Odense, which recently dropped seven straight games, paid a stripper to visit the team's practice and perform an "inflammatory dance." The players were especially appreciative since it helped them save the money they typically budget for strippers. 2. The New York Post's Page Six reported that Cubs manager Dusty Baker spoke at Yale recently and gave his cell phone number to a young woman, volunteering to get her a job in baseball. According to the Post, the manager told her, "Remind me you're the cute one [when you call]." Yes, it seems that Baker has finally found his closer. 3. The movie Batman Begins will be the title sponsor of the Nextel Cup race at Michigan International Speedway on June 19, now dubbed the Batman Begins 400. In addition, the Batmobile will serve as the honorary pace car. The role of the Joker will be played by Tony Stewart. 4. Jose Canseco and his twin brother Ozzie were found liable for more than $730,000 in a lawsuit by two men whom they beat up at a Miami Beach nightclub in 2001. Jose intends to file an appeal, but Ozzie is pleased that the court declared he can make contact. 5. Yankees closer Mariano Rivera rang Monday's opening bell at the American Stock Exchange, which closed the day up 16.81 points. Yanks owner George Steinbrenner immediately demanded that Rivera be converted to a starter. 6. Detroit Free Press columnist Mitch Albom will resume writing for the paper after management completed an internal review in the wake of his April 3 column in which he described a scene that never occurred. Albom's first column upon his return will be a heartwarming tribute to the back-to-back champion Pistons.
7. The University of Kansas announced a new deal with adidas that will pay the school more than $26 million in cash and merchandise during the next eight years. The Jayhawks promptly bought the entire Bucknell athletic program and shut it down. 8. Our old friend Vince Naimoli, the managing general partner of the Devil Rays, is catching heat again. The scourge of visiting scouts, ticket-writing police officers and pizza-eating sportswriters is the subject of two new Web sites, the self-explanatory http://www.oustnaimoli.com/oust/ and http://www.vincemustgo.com/. The sites are teaming together to sponsor a one-inning fan walkout at the May 28 game against the Mariners. Naimoli likely won't mind that since he'll have already pocketed those fans' money, just as he does MLB's revenue-sharing check. In fact, Forbes recently ranked the Rays as No. 2 in operating income last season at $27.2 million. The team's payroll is just $29 million. 9. Canucks forward Todd Bertuzzi, who sucker-punched Steve Moore 14 months ago, will meet with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman on Tuesday with hopes of being reinstated to the league. If he's successful, Bertuzzi will drop his plans to play for the Temple basketball team. 10. For those who didn't catch our draft blog last Saturday, here's a Web site that can generate your very own alias just like Falcons quarterback Michael Vick (aka Ron Mexico). My new name, by the way, is Ricardo Mozambique. That should be helpful in shaking the many 10 Spot groupies.
