Scully signs on for two more yearsPosted: Wednesday Feb 22, 2006 6:43 PM
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Vin Scully agreed to return for his 58th and 59th seasons as a broadcaster with the Dodgers, accepting a two-year contract extension through 2008. The 78-year-old Scully was typically humble.
"I've never had a press conference before, so I hope I don't mess up,'' he said Wednesday. Scully's career with the team began in Brooklyn in 1950. The Dodgers moved to Los Angeles after the 1957 season. "All my career, all I have ever really done, all I ever have accomplished, is to talk about the accomplishments of others,'' Scully said. "We can't all be heroes. Somebody has to stand on the curb and applaud as the parade goes by.'' The Dodgers have undergone many changes since last season, hiring Ned Colletti as general manager and Grady Little as manager. "It is going to be funny for me to go into the clubhouse in Vero Beach and not know half the players,'' Scully said. "In fact, I really wish we had the names on the back of the uniforms more than ever this year.'' |
