VIERA, Fla. (AP) - Washington Nationals second baseman Jose Vidro will not play for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.

The three-time All-Star said Thursday he wanted to spend spring training concentrating on playing a full season with the Nationals following 2 1/2 years of knee and ankle injuries.

"My past two years have been injury-plagued,'' Vidro said after reporting to the Nationals camp. "This spring training is very important for me.''

Vidro had mixed emotions over the decision. He said he received calls from many friends when he was first named to Puerto Rico's roster.

"I feel for them now. They won't be able to see me play,'' Vidro said. "This is not an easy decision. Hopefully, I get another chance. But, as of right now, this is my team, and I've got to be able to play for them this year.''
