BALTIMORE (AP) -The New York Yankees placed right-hander Darrell Rasner on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with soreness in his pitching shoulder, and recalled left-hander Matt Smith from Triple-A Columbus.

Rasner made his Yankees debut Thursday at Detroit, allowing one hit in 1 2-3 innings of relief. He was recalled Wednesday from Columbus, where he went 4-0 with a 2.56 ERA in nine starts.

This will be Smith's third stint with the Yankees this season. In his first trip to the majors, he retired all seven batters he faced in three different appearances from April 14-30. Smith was recalled on May 24 and did not pitch before sent back to Columbus on May 26.
