Mississippi State, by a nose over Arkansas. The Bulldogs received a letter of intent from the state's best player in the class of 2007, 6-foot-7 wing Ravern Johnson, on signing day, and already have one of Mississippi's best, Charles Rhodes, in their starting lineup. He averaged 13.8 points per game and shot 56.6 percent from the field as a sophomore in 2005-06. Rick Stansbury's team would have won this by a landslide had five-star shooting guard Monta Ellis, one of the nation's top players in 2005, not jumped straight to the NBA. Outside Player: ArkansasArkansas, which also lost a monster Mississippi recruit, Al Jefferson, when he entered the draft straight out of high school. The Hogs have signed two quality post players from the state in Charles Thomas (a 9.7 ppg scorer) and Cyrus McGowan (who played sparingly as a freshman in '05-06). Dragging In-State: Ole MissOle Miss is absent from this list, and only has one state player on its roster, but expect the Rebels to rebound under new coach Andy Kennedy, who was a successful recruiter under Bob Huggins at Cincinnati.
