Oklahoma State
Ugo Chinasa
Ugo Chinasa (Scout.com)
HEAD OF THE CLASS:
QB Alex Cate (8), DL Derek Burton (13)
NEWBERG'S ANALYSIS: The Cowboys are reeling in a talented, balanced class. Cate was previously committed to LSU before the QB changed his mind and decided to attend Oklahoma State. The Pokes lost out on running back Michael Goodson, but are still bringing in a trio of backs, four wide receivers and five offensive linemen. On the other side of the ball, six defensive line prospects are headed to Oklahoma State -- three tackles and three ends -- led by Burton and Ugo Chinasa, two of the region's top recruits.
BIG FISH THAT GOT AWAY: Goodson (Texas A&M)

Texas Tech
Taylor Potts
Taylor Potts (Scout.com)
HEAD OF THE CLASS:
QB Taylor Potts (14), LB Blake Collier (27)
NEWBERG'S ANALYSIS: Believe it or not, this Red Raider class is not entirely focused on the passing game. Texas Tech is getting one of the state's top quarterbacks in Potts, but the strength of this group is on defense and the O-line. Coach Mike Leach is signing seven O-linemen; the best of the bunch is Ofa Mohetau, who was one of the top overall players in the nation two years ago. On defense, they are signing 19 recruits -- including 13 for their front seven -- in an effort to build a unit that effectively complements their high-powered offense.
BIG FISH THAT GOT AWAY: QB Greg McElroy (Alabama)

Alabama
Andre Smith
Andre Smith (Scout.com)
HEAD OF THE CLASS:
OL Andre Smith (1), WR Earl Alexander (22)
NEWBERG'S ANALYSIS: 'Bama had to wait until Signing Day to land its biggest recruit, beating out LSU, Florida and USC for Smith, the top offensive lineman in the nation. When the Tide lost Tim Tebow to Florida, they stole Greg McElroy, a good Texas quarterback prospect, away from Texas Tech. 'Bama will resign Mike Ford, who emerged last season as the No. 2-rated running back prospect from Florida. At wide receiver, the Tide are bringing in Alexander, Mike McCoy and Nikita Stover, who was the top prospect in Alabama two seasons ago but failed to qualify. 'Bama has four O-line commits, and it did well with linebackers, landing Charlie Higgenbotham, LaBronksi Hutchins and Ricardo Wright as well as defensive backs Justin Woodall, Tremayne Coger, Marcus Udell and Javier Arenas. Coger and Arenas are steals from the states of Tennessee and Florida, respectively.
BIG FISH THAT GOT AWAY: QB Tim Tebow (Florida)
18

Arizona
Devin Ross
Devin Ross (Scout.com)
HEAD OF THE CLASS:
WR Terrell Reese (13), CB Devin Ross (3)
NEWBERG'S ANALYSIS: For the second consecutive year, coach Mike Stoops has built a top-20 recruiting class. This is a program on the rise, and they are getting help nearly everywhere other than linebacker. Quarterback Tyler Lyon, running back Derke Robinson, wide receivers Reese, Delashaun Dean and Terrell Turner, offensive linemen Jovan Hayes and tight ends Earl Mitchell and Cody Anderson were all highly sought-after prospects. Defensively, the Wildcats are getting some serious juco help with tackle Gabe Long, and ends Louis Holmes, Nate Ness and A.J. Simmons. Ross could step in and help out next season in the secondary.
BIG FISH THAT GOT AWAY: DE Jermaine Williams (Arizona State)
20

ucla
Terrence Austin
Terrence Austin (Scout.com)
HEAD OF THE CLASS:
WR Terrence Austin (9), DT Darius Savage (14)
NEWBERG'S ANALYSIS: Like Texas Tech, UCLA is getting defensive with its Class of '06. The Bruins are not signing a quarterback and are only bringing in one running back, two receivers and six offensive linemen. The O-line group has three top-40 prospects in Micah Kia, Jake Dean and Sean Sheller. The real talent is on D: Savage is the No. 4-rated defensive tackle from the West Coast, and he, Reggie Stokes and Jeff Miller lead UCLA's contingent of defensive linemen. Christian Ramirez is an athletic safety prospect who could also play running back, and Austin is a talented wideout.
BIG FISH THAT GOT AWAY: LB Allen Bradford (USC)
21

Clemson
C.J. Spiller
C.J. Spiller (Scout.com)
HEAD OF THE CLASS:
RB C.J. Spiller (4), DE Ricky Sapp (2)
NEWBERG'S ANALYSIS: The Tigers pulled off perhaps the biggest shocker of Signing Day when they received a commitment from Spiller, a fantastic runner from Florida who was expected to sign with either the Seminoles or Gators. Clemson is also bringing in a talented crop of defenders, led by Hot 100 prospect Sapp, the nation's No. 2-rated defensive end. He's rangy, quick and very athletic. Jamie Cumbie (who is also a potential tight end) and Kevin Alexander are other gifted defensive ends. In the secondary, Tommy Bowden's Tigers are adding playmakers such as DeAndre McDaniel, Byron Maxwell, Darius Gaither, and Crezdon Butler.
BIG FISH THAT GOT AWAY: DT Ben Alexander (Texas)
22

Texas A&M
Michael Goodson
Michael Goodson (Scout.com)
HEAD OF THE CLASS:
RB Michael Goodson (5), DE Cody Williams (9)
NEWBERG'S ANALYSIS: The Aggies' headliner is Goodson; they won a bitter battle against Oklahoma State and Southern Cal for his services. Goodson, who had previously been committed to the Cowboys, is a playmaking running back who is one of the nation's most explosive prospects. A&M's passing game should get a big boost as well, as coach Dennis Franchione is bringing in five receivers and one of the nation's top tight ends in Jerrod Johnson. Defensive tackle Leslie Ray, defensive end Cody Williams and linebacker Anthony Lewis are all considered among the best prospects at their respective positions from the state of Texas.
BIG FISH THAT GOT AWAY: WR/CB Ken Beasley (Texas)
23

California
Darian Hagan
Darian Hagan (Scout.com)
HEAD OF THE CLASS:
QB Kevin Riley (18), CB Darian Hagan (5)
NEWBERG'S ANALYSIS: Jeff Tedford and the Bears have quietly put together one of the top classes in the Pac-10. They are getting quality prospects at quarterback (Riley) and running back (Tracy Slocum and James Montgomery). Cal's O-line should get some immediate help from two juco transfers, Mark Gray and Mike Gibson. Cal has a trio of top-notch D-tackles in Derrick Hill, Mike Costanzo and Isaac Leatiota. Hagan is the best of three speedy cover corners headed to Berkeley.
BIG FISH THAT GOT AWAY: S C.J. Gable (USC)
24

Tennessee
Nick Stephens
Nick Stephens (Scout.com)
HEAD OF THE CLASS:
QB Nick Stephens (11), DE Chase Nelson (25)
NEWBERG'S ANALYSIS: The Vols got off to a slow start, but they kicked into high gear down the stretch. They landed Stephens, who had previously been committed to Ole Miss, as well as a big fish on the offensive line in Jacque McClendon. Cody Pope is another talented OL from California, and the Vols just landed OL Ramone Johnson from Illinois. Tight ends Luke Stocker and Lee Smith are as talented as they come. Nelson is one of the top players from the midlands region, as is linebacker Dorian Davis.
BIG FISH THAT GOT AWAY: TE Brandon Warren (Florida State).
25

North Carolina
Jarrell Miller
Jarrell Miller (Scout.com)
HEAD OF THE CLASS:
TE Vince Jacobs (28), LB Jarrell Miller (11)
NEWBERG'S ANALYSIS: This class is very balanced and could be the best of coach John Bunting's tenure at UNC. The Tar Heels have quality prospects at every single position -- quarterbacks B.J. Phillips and T.J. Yates, running backs Johnny White and Anthony Elzy, wide receivers Hakeem Nicks and Anthony Parker-Boyd, five offensive linemen, tight end Jacobs, and defensive standouts such as Tavares Brown, Darius Massenburg, Miller, Deunta Williams Shaun Draughn and Aleric Mullins, who committed on Signing Day.
BIG FISH THAT GOT AWAY: CB Raeshon McNeil (Notre Dame)
