Singh, DiMarco trail at Abu DhabiPosted: Friday January 20, 2006 3:50PM; Updated: Friday January 20, 2006 3:50PM ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) -- Charl Schwartzel of South Africa shot a 6-under 66 Friday to take a one-stroke lead in the second round of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. Schwartzel, at 9-under 135, leads Soren Hansen of Denmark and Ricardo Gonzalez of Argentina. Hansen also shot 66 Friday, while Thongchai Jaidee carded a 69, putting him two shots off the pace in fourth place. Seven players were three behind, including Chris DiMarco and No. 2-ranked Vijay Singh. DiMarco had a 67 and Singh came in with a 70 at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. Gusting wind disturbed players Thursday, but not Friday, and the scores were lower. "I don't like the wind, it makes you think about your shots more than when it's dead calm," Schwartzel said. "We are only at halfway, but I think my game is there. I have just got to keep doing what I'm doing." DiMarco picked up five birdies and improved by four shots after opening with a 71. "I would feel great to win here in a field like this," the American said. "The feeling will be all the more special since it's an inaugural event." First-round leader Keith Horne of South Africa, who opened with a 66, slumped to a 74 and fell five shots behind. Among those missing the cut at even-par 144 was John Daly. The American opened with a 72 but shot 75 on Friday. (Copyright 2006 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
