Six teams fell completely out of poll after rough week

The National Baseball Top 25 was turned upside down this week as six teams dropped out of the rankings, including No. 3 Bishop Moore (Fla.). The Hornets plummeted after they suffered a 10-0, five-inning loss in the Class 4A state semifinals.

The Woodlands (The Woodlands, Texas) (32-1)
The Woodlands cruised past Klein, 8-0 and 10-0, in the Region II-5A quarterfinals. In the second game, senior right-hander Kyle Drabek fanned seven and blasted a solo homer in the five-inning win. The Highlanders will play Carrollton Smith in the regional semifinals on May 27.

Jackson (Mill Creek, Wash.) (25-0)
The Timberwolves edged Lake Washington, 5-3, in the first round of the Class 4A state tournament. Jackson followed that with an 18-0 thrashing of South Kitsap in the quarterfinals. Senior outfielder Travis Snider went 3-for-3 in the second game and drove in four, including three on his school-record 11th homer of the season. Senior right-hander Cam Nobles led the way on the mound, fanning 10 and allowing just one hit over five innings. Jackson will face Tahoma in the state semifinals on May 26.

Chatsworth (Chatsworth, Calif.) (29-2)
Senior right-hander Josh Ravin pitched a four-hitter and struck out six in the Chancellors' 11-1, six-inning win over Banning in the CIF Los Angeles City Section Championship Division quarterfinals. Chatsworth, which has won 11 consecutive games, will play San Fernando in the semifinals on May 23.

Flanagan (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) (29-3)
Flanagan defeated Sarasota, 7-1, to capture its second consecutive Class 6A state title. Senior right-hander Glenn Witkowski allowed just four hits and fanned eight to win his 30th consecutive game. Witkowski finished his career at 34-2 overall. Junior outfielder Chris Connelly went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBIs. Flanagan beat Hialeah, 1-0, in the semifinals behind a two-hit gem from junior left-hander D.J. Swatscheno.

Brenham (Brenham, Texas) (32-2)
Brenham squeezed past Little Cypress-Mauriceville, 4-3, in the Region III-4A quarterfinals. Brenham will face Texas City in the semifinals on May 27.

Junipero Serra (San Mateo, Calif.) (25-2)
The Padres defeated Mountain View, 9-1, in the first round of the Central Coast Section Division I playoffs. Serra followed that with a 7-1 victory over St. Francis in the quarterfinals. Jimmy Parque drove in four runs in the second game. Serra will play Valley Christian in the semifinals on May 24.

James Monroe (Bronx, N.Y.) (42-2)
Monroe defeated Walton and Kennedy last week. In the win over Walton, Jeffrey Hostos had four hits and five RBIs, and Gabriel Molina hit a three-run homer.

Flanagan (Esperanza, Calif.) (24-3)
Nick Gallego drove in the game-winning run on in RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to lift Esperanza to a 2-1 victory over Arlington in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs. Esperanza will play Corona in the second round on May 23.

El Camino Real (Woodland Hills, Calif.) (26-5)
El Camino dominated Palisades with a 15-2 victory in the CIF Los Angeles City Section Championship Division quarterfinals. Senior Shaun Kort hit two homers and knocked in three. El Camino will play Kennedy in the semifinals on May 23.

Cypress (Cypress, Calif.) (23-3)
Cypress blanked Alemany, 7-0, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs. Senior left-hander Adam Wilk allowed just two hits and struck out 10 in the win. Cypress takes on Paso Robles in the second round on May 23.

Palm Beach Central (Wellington, Fla.) (28-2)
The Broncos barely lost to then-No. 8 Flanagan, 8-7, in a Class 6A regional final. Flanagan scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh. Despite the loss, Central finishes the season ranked high in the Top 25 because the defeat came to a nationally ranked team that ended up winning the state tournament.

Bellarmine (San Jose, Calif.) (32-4)
The Bells upended Mount Pleasant, 10-0, in the first round of the CIF Central Coast Section Division I playoffs. Bellarmine followed that with a 3-1 victory over Archbishop Mitty in the quarterfinals. Bellarmine will play Santa Teresa in the semifinals on May 24.
