NEW YORK (AP) -- -- The Atlanta Thrashers announced Thursday they have signed center Niko Kapanen to a multiyear contract. Terms of Kapanen's deal were not immediately available.
Kapanen, who earned the league minimum $450,000 last season with Dallas, was acquired by the Thrashers with a draft pick for Patrik Stefan and Jaroslav Modry on June 24.
Kapanen, 28, appeared in 239 NHL games with the Stars over four seasons. He recorded 76 points, with 20 goals and 56 assists.
Thrashers general manager Don Waddell acquired Kapanen to fill the void left by the departure of free agent center Marc Savard. Kapanen, a native of Hameenlinna, Finland, set career highs with 35 points and 14 goals. He led Dallas with two short-handed goals.
The 29-year-old had a career-high 14 goals and 16 assists in 74 games with the Minnesota Wild last season.
Chouinard has 74 career points (35 goals) and 113 penalty minutes in 278 games with Minnesota and Anaheim.
Chouinard was drafted 32nd overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1995 NHL entry draft.
Coyotes ink Roche
The Phoenix Coyotes have signed defenseman Travis Roche to a two-year contract, the team announced Thursday.
The 28-year-old had a career-high 12 goals, 38 assists and 50 points for the Chicago Wolves in American Hockey League play in the 2004-05 season.
He had eight goals, 31 assists and 39 points for the team in the 2005-06 season.
Roche has played in 10 NHL games with the Minnesota Wild over parts of three seasons. He signed with Minnesota as a free agent in April 2001 after college play at the University of North Dakota. He last played for Minnesota in the 2003-04 season.
Financial terms of the deal with the Coyotes weren't disclosed.
Ducks give Kunitz two-year deal
Left wing Chris Kunitz signed a two-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.
He set club rookie records last season for goals (19), assists (22), and shots (149) while appearing in 67 games for Anaheim.
The 26-year-old Kunitz added three goals and five assists in Anaheim's 16 postseason games.
Kunitz was claimed on waivers by Atlanta last Oct. 4, and was scoreless in two games for the Thrashers last season. The Ducks, who originally signed him as a free agent in April 2003, reclaimed him on Oct. 18.
