By Brian Cazeneuve, SI.com TURIN, Italy -- Gymnastics icons Bart Conner and Nadia Comaneci will have one more title to add to their list of honors this summer: first-time parents. Conner, 48, and Comaneci, 44, are expecting a boy around July 18, the 30th anniversary of the day Comaneci recorded the first perfect 10.0 in the history of the sport while representing her native Romania at the Montreal Olympics. "In July I expect he'll just come tumbling out," Conner told SI.com on Tuesday. "We've been so blessed in our lives to have opportunities and achievements but I'm really thrilled about this next chapter. Nothing can top this." The couple, who married in 1996, met at the American Cup competition in New York in 1976 and re-united after they retired from gymnastics and Comaneci moved to the States in 1989. Between them, they won 11 medals at the Olympics. Comaneci won the all-around title in 1976 and recorded the first seven perfect 10.0s in the history of the sport at the Montreal Games, where she captured five medals. Four years later, she added two more golds at the Moscow Olympics. Conner was a member of the U.S. men's team that won the team competition at the Los Angeles Games in 1984. He also won individual gold on the parallel bars. Since their marriage, Comaneci and Conner have stayed involved with gymnastics and contributed to numerous charities while living in Norman, Okla., which is also the home of International Gymnast magazine (they are associate publishers) and the site of Conner's gymnastics academy. Comaneci recently returned from Romania, where she helped raise one million Euros for European orphanages. The couple also makes numerous appearances on behalf of the Special Olympics and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. | |||||||
