ABC Sports is so concerned about Indy's slipping interest that it has moved the starting time to 1 p.m. in an effort to capture more West Coast viewers. The Coca-Cola 600 on Fox is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. By pushing back the start by an hour, ABC also ended the popular practice of one driver competing in both races. John Andretti, Tony Stewart and Robby Gordon have raced at both places in the same day, but it seemed to bring far more attention to the stock-car race because the real challenge was to get out of Indianapolis and travel 526 miles to Charlotte, N.C., in time for another 600 miles of racing.

NASCAR team owner Jack Roush owns everything from three Boeing 727s, used to transport his race teams, to a small Piper Cub capable of top speeds around 65 mph. His prized plane is a P-51 Mustang, a restored World War II warbird that he flies on a regular basis. He's building another P-51 from plans obtained from the Smithsonian and expects to have it flying soon. The P-51 is one of the best-known warbirds from the second world war. It's powerful -- as much as 1,600 horsepower -- and capable of speeds to 400 knots. Restored P-51s can fetch more than $3 million today.
