Here's one you hear the most about: The Warriors' Troy Murphy and No. 9 to the Bulls for No. 2 and something, maybe Michael Sweetney. The Warriors are desperate for a big man and figure to want a shot at LaMarcus Aldridge or Tyrus Thomas. They've got to pare payroll and Murphy has five years left, escalating up to almost $12 million. Word's going around NBA circles that Dwyane Wade may not stick around past the two more years of his contract in that many of the players he's playing with now will be even older (in fact, all of them will). But don't put it past Pat Riley to figure out how to surround Wade with the right players. A Cavaliers spokesman vehemently denied a rumor circulating the pre-draft camp that the Cavs might consider trading Larry Hughes in attempt to upgrade LeBron James' supporting cast. The Pacers reportedly have talked to Toronto about trading Jermaine O'Neal to the Raptors for some sort of package that would include the No. 1 pick. Indiana may also be talking with the point guard-starved Timberwolves about a Jamaal Tinsley-for-Ricky Davis swap. The Magic would love to move up almost anywhere. It has been trying to move up for Shelden Williams, which wouldn't require a No. 2. Would Chicago take Grant Hill and No. 11 for the pick? It is highly doubtful the Bulls would take such a chance because Hill may not be able to play. Word is several NBA teams have offered junk deals for forward Kenyon Martin, but the Nuggets have laughed at each one. Six of the top seven players expected to be drafted will work out in Portland from Thursday to June 20, three against competition and three alone. On Thursday, Gonzaga's Adam Morrison will go against Connecticut forward Rudy Gay, and Washington guard Brandon Roy will work out with Arizona guard Hassan Adams. Solo workouts will be held with Bradley center Patrick O'Bryant on Saturday, Texas center LaMarcus Aldridge next Monday and Louisiana State forward Tyrus Thomas on June 20. Dwyane Wade said since the playoffs began he has fielded phone calls from Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Derek Jeter. Said Wade: "Jordan, I talked to him before the Detroit series and he told me he was rooting for us." Forward Keith Van Horn, an unrestricted free agent after this season, said he won't make any decision about his future for about a month after the playoffs. He said he was open to staying with the Mavericks, even in a reserve role. Hornets coach Byron Scott expects to sign a contract extension by the end of the month. Scott, whose $9 million, three-year contract expires after the 2006-07 season, has remained confident during the process that he will remain with the Hornets, Hornets general manager Jeff Bower, who was promoted from director of player personnel in October, also expects a new contract. The Blazers announced today that they've completed their investigation of Zach Randolph's involvement in a recent early morning traffic stop by Portland police. While Randolph was not ticketed or cited, he was a passenger in, and the owner of, a vehicle that the police stopped for speed racing. After reviewing police reports and conducting multiple interviews the team has determined that under team and NBA policy, Randolph's actions do not warrant discipline. A source said Denver Nuggets assistant Scott Brooks has received an offer with a hefty pay raise to be a Sacramento Kings assistant, and he is expected to accept. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
