The Yates-Roush engine program is not included in the sale. No word on the status of the contracts between RYR and sponsors M&M/Mars and Citifinancial, and how they will be affected by the sale. Elliott Sadler cleaned out his locker Monday at Robert Yates Racing, clearing the way for David Gilliland to take over the No. 38 M&M's Ford. Gilliland, 30, will make his second Nextel Cup start, his first for RYR, Sunday in the GFS Marketplace 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Gilliland's name has been painted on the No. 38 M&M's Ford Fusion, and all signs point to a formal announcement within days. Sadler is still listed in the No. 38 Ford and Bill Elliott is still listed in the No. 19 car on the Michigan entry list. If Bill Elliott runs the No. 19, he will be able to use the past champions provisional ... if needed. When Chip Ganassi announced July 9 the hiring of Formula One star Juan Pablo Montoya to drive a Nextel Cup car next season, the plan was for the Colombian to begin testing by mid-August. But with McLaren, Montoya's F-1 team, not granting him an immediate release, that target date apparently isn't going to be met. It's clearly a sore subject for Ganassi. Kerry Tharp, NASCAR director of communication for competition, said road races are an important part of the NASCAR schedule. "It shows the variety and uniqueness of our races," he said. Tharp also acknowledged that the governing body is also looking at how the two road races impact the points Chase. Rusty Wallace Inc. officials say that the team's No. 64 Dodge will be sponsored by Carfax for Saturday's Carfax 250 Busch Series race at Michigan International Speedway. Steve Wallace is driving the entry. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed. Tony Stewart, Sunday's runner-up, commiserated with Kurt Busch after the penalty call that knocked him out of contention in Sunday's race. "He had one of the strongest cars for sure. He definitely had a car capable of winning the race if didn't get caught at the wrong time in the pits with the caution coming out right before he hit the line," Stewart said. "That's absolutely rotten luck and there's nothing he or his team could have done about it." Veteran racer Bobby Hamilton said tests indicate he is cancer-free and he is gradually recovering from the effects of five months of debilitating treatments. He reaffirmed his goal to race again this season. Jeff Green and David Gilliland are scheduled to test at Kentucky Speedway on Tuesday. Green is confirmed thru team PR and Gilliland is rumored to be testing. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
