Texas coaches are equally giddy about Shipley's anticipated debut. Matt Howard, a 6-7 forward from Connersville (Ind.) High School, said Tuesday he will play for Butler, becoming the first top-100 player to pick the Bulldogs since national rankings became prominent the past two decades. With Florida State's Charlie Graham still recovering from an ankle sprain and Caz Piurowski being held out of contact because of a shoulder sprain, freshman tight end Brandon Warren took full advantage of the spotlight Tuesday. Warren had several nice receptions during the team's two-and-a-half hour workout. Norm Roberts' attempt to turn around the St. John's program got a shot in the arm yesterday when the Red Storm received a verbal commitment from Christ the King's Malik Boothe, perhaps the top incoming senior point guard in the city. There was a surprise running across the field in Rutgers' summer camp yesterday. True freshman wide receiver Kenny Britt, who had sat out the first week of Rutgers' summer camp while awaiting eligibility clearance from the NCAA, was at practice for the first time, sprinting lightly with the team. Georgia Tech is going back to the SEC, at least with its nonconference football schedule. Tech plays at least two SEC teams per year six times in the seven-year stretch from 2008-14. It means a new regional emphasis and an end, at least until the middle of the next decade, of major national matchups like the games this season and next against Notre Dame. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
