Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson is pursuing a summer basketball coach with ties to Eric Gordon to add to the Hoosiers' staff. Sampson offered a position to Travis Steele, Steele's former boss said Tuesday. Steele coached the North Central High School senior at this year's Adidas May Classic. Gordon, who has orally committed to Illinois, said he has known Steele since junior high. Former Oklahoma quarterback Rhett Bomar and offensive guard J.D. Quinn have made Stephen F. Austin part of their tour in an effort to find a place to play football. Quarterback Allan Evridge, who started six games as a redshirt freshman last season at Kansas State but recently left the program, has decided to transfer to Wisconsin, his mother confirmed. Under NCAA rules, Evridge will have to sit out the 2006 season and will have just two seasons of eligibility remaining. Virginia men's basketball guard T.J. Bannister announced plans to transfer, the school said yesterday. USC fullback Brandon Hancock had been preparing for the opportunity since Jan. 1, 2004, when he suffered a knee injury against Michigan in the Rose Bowl. His plans ended Tuesday after test results confirmed that Hancock tore ligaments when he twisted his left knee awkwardly during practice on Monday. Oregon's hard-hitting Patrick Chung, an honorable mention all-Pacific-10 Conference player as a freshman at rover, isn't moving to the corner soon, even with the injury to cornerback Terrell Ward. Penn State All-American linebacker Paul Posluszny is so intense with his offseason training regimen that few Penn State players will agree to work out with him. One of the brave souls who puts himself through the torture of trying to keep up with Posluszny is his heir apparent, Sean Lee of Upper St. Clair. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
