Speculation is mounting that Elliott Sadler will join Kahne as a teammate next season -- although there's been no official confirmation from Ray Evernham Motorsports or Sadler himself. Asked about the situation, Kahne took things one-step further, saying Sadler may join the team in time for this weekend's race at Michigan. John Story, general manager of Robby Gordon Motorsports, denied a rumor circulating that Gordon had purchased Robert Yates Racing. Story did say Gordon's team is talking to teams, including the Yates team, about aligning resources to compete against multi-car operations. While there was no official word Tuesday, the train that will eventually put David Gilliland in the No. 38 Ford for Robert Yates Racing and Elliott Sadler in Evernham Motorsports' No. 19 Dodge was still heading down the tracks. It appears Jeremy Mayfield will likely end up at Bill Davis Racing in 2007. He won't be the third driver for Michael Waltrip Racing's new Toyota operation, Waltrip said Tuesday. Kenny Wallace plans to run full-time in Cup and Busch in 2007. He will drive the No. 78 car in Cup races and the No. 22 car in Busch races. Aric Almirola, a member of Joe Gibbs Racing's diversity driver development program, is expected to move full-time to the NASCAR Busch Series next season and compete in Gibbs' No. 20 Chevrolet. Almirola, a 22-year-old Hispanic driver from Tampa, Fla., would replace Nextel Cup rookie Denny Hamlin in the car, several sources confirmed. The Car of Tomorrow [COT] will be tested at Michigan International Speedway on Monday by Matt Kenseth [Ford], Kurt Busch [Dodge], Jeff Gordon [Chevy] and Michael Waltrip, with Waltrip testing a Toyota for Michael Waltrip Racing, Bill Davis Racing and Red Bull Racing. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was at Nashville Superspeedway testing the No. 8 Budweiser Chevy yesterday. Four Truck Series teams are testing tires for Goodyear in a closed session on Las Vegas Motor Speedway's new pavement and banked turns Tuesday and Wednesday: Rick Crawford [Ford], Dennis Setzer [Chevy], Todd Bodine [Toyota] and Brendan Gaughan [Dodge]. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
